Corto, Founder & CEO
Yves Bergquist is an AI researcher and the Director of the “AI & Neuroscience in Media” Project at USC’s Entertainment Technology Center, where and his team have received funding from all 6 studios as well as a handful of technology companies such as Cisco, Microsoft, and Nagra-Kudelski, to research and develop next-generation applications drawn from AI and neuroscience for the media and entertainment industry.
Yves is also the Founder and CEO of AI startup Corto, which is building a 360-degree insights platform to help media and entertainment companies develop deep, “genomics”-type real time insights into how their content resonates with their audiences, and why. Corto leverages neural-symbolic AI methods to build integrated insights into the cognitive relationship between audience segments and specific attributes of content, predict financial performance far ahead of release, and identify viral pathways for positive and negative buzz.
At ETC, Yves and his team manage a dozen research and development projects applying advanced AI and neuroscience methods to the challenges facing the entertainment industry. Their efforts include: identifying fandoms in every zip code in America in near-real time, developing the very first audience intelligence application focused on the Chinese, Latin American, and SouthEast Asian markets, correlating narrative structures in film to theatrical performance, and a neural network-powered semantic content classification application to classify every piece of cinematic information in video, to build granular content recommendation systems. Yves’ team is also working on applying machine intelligence to model algorithmic structures of narrative and “interestingness” in film and TV, as well as building neuro-biological models of audience emotions using advanced neuro-imaging techniques.
